Carrying a heavy load can lead to poor posture and a distorted spinal column. Over time this can cause muscle strain, headaches, neck and arm pain, and even nerve damage.
🔹Backpacks should be made of lightweight materials. (I.E. Vinyl or canvas) 🔹Packs with two shoulder straps distributes the weight better. 🔹The straps should be at least 2 inches wide & should not be too snug around the shoulders or armpits. Try before you buy. 🔹The top should not extend higher than the top of the shoulder & the bottom should not fall below the top of the hipbone. 🔹A pack with a padded back & hip strap or waist belt are preferred. 50-70% of the weight can be removed off the shoulders and spine by a hip strap & will equalize the strain on the bones, joints, and muscles. 🔹Backpacks with a lot of pockets help distribute weight more effectively.
